Əvvəldən 1797-ci ildə qoşulan, Haydnın melodiyasının adı «Kayzerin mahnısı» (Kaiserlied) kimi adlanırdır. Qoffman fon Fallersleben 1841-ci ildə "Almaniya hər şeydən yüksək" şeiri yazmışdır. Sözlər və müsiqi üst-üstə qoyulmuşdur.
